Gametime

It's put up or shut up tonight for Northeastern. They come into the game tied in seventh place in Hockey East with UMass and Vermont. With a win, the Huskies clinch a playoff spot. If they lose, they will need help. All the scenarios for the Huskies can be found on wrbbsports.com.

I'll be back in a few with starting lineups for both teams.

This is the last game that will be played in Matthews Arena this season, as the Huskies are no longer able to clinch home-ice in the quarterfinals of the Hockey East playoffs. The building turns 100 on April 16th.

5-4 Final. BU wins it

The Terriers hold on to defeat Northeastern 5 to 4 at Agganis Arena.

Once again, a depressing loss for Northeastern.

BU clinches a spot in the playoffs with the win, NU can no longer get home ice in the playoffs and will be fighting for their playoff lives tomorrow night at Matthews Arena.

4 on 4

Penalties to Kyle Kraemer and Colby Cohen. Both get matching minors for slashing with 6 minutes remaining in the game. The teams will skate four aside...

BU Regains the Lead

NU turns the puck over behind their own net and Boston University makes them pay once again. The goal goes to Vinny Saponari.

The whole play resulted from Justin Daniels deciding not to bank the puck off the boards and out. Instead, he passed it back behind the NU net to his defenseman (Chris Student I think?) and student lost the puck in the boards to the BU player fore-checking. Before you knew it, the puck was in the back of the net.

Things Getting Tense

Stoppage of play with 11:19 left to go. The teams are at even strength.

Alex Tuckerman just got his bell rung and then on the ensuing play, Chris Rawlings had to make a good save, but we're still tied

Powerplay Huskies

Penalty to Wade Megan for slashing at 6:01 of the third period. NU PP.

Stats Through Two Periods

With a 4-4 score, the stats don't really tell the whole story after 40 minutes.

Shots: BU- 30 NU- 19

PP: BU- 0/3 NU- 0/3 (1 in progress)

Goals in that period: Warsofsky from Chiasson and Colby Cohen, Mike McLaughlin from Garrett Vermeersch and Jim Driscoll, and Jake Newton from Chris Donovan.

Bad News

Just got word that it's Jack Parker's birthday tonight. Definitely a bad omen for the Huskies

End of the Second Period- score tied 4-4

As the second period comes to a close, the score is tied at 4-4. This should make for a hell of a third period.

There is :13 seconds remaining on the penalty to Colby Cohen of BU.

Stats coming soon.

5 on 3, NU style

Penalty to Colby Cohen, 2 minutes for interference. The Huskies will have :19 seconds of 5 on 3.
The goals for NU were scored 29 seconds apart.

Now we get a penalty to Beanpot hero Alex Chiasson for elbowing at 16:31 of the second period and the Huskies will get on the power play.

And the answer to that is a resounding YES!

The Huskies score two goals back-to-back and get back into the game.

Goals were scored by Mike McLaughlin (his first of the season!) and Jake Newton (his second of the game).

On the second goal for Newton, Chris Donovan gets his first point in his thirteenth career game against the Terriers.

Northeastern Kills Off Both PP's

The Huskies are back at even strength after killing off both penalties on the bench and Driscoll.

Now the question, can they take any momentum from their efforts and turn this game around? We're halfway through at 10:00 into the second.

NU: Penalties Galore

After killing off a penalty to Justin Daniels, the team gets called for too many men on the ice and then Jim Driscoll gets called for hooking.

5 on 3 for the Terriers for about 1:15

Husky Penalty

Penalty to Justin Daniels for tripping. The Huskies are not looking too good right now on the road.

BU opens up the game, now leads by 2

Goal for David Warsofsky on a nice shot that beat Chris Rawlings glove side up high for the goal.

First Period Stats

Through one period, BU has scored more goals in this game than they did in the two previous games they played against NU.

Shots: BU- 13 NU- 9

PP: BU- 0/0 NU- 0/1

Rawlings has made 10 saves, Milan has stopped 7 pucks.

Second period getting ready to start now..

3-2, End of the First Period

BU kills off the power play and at the end of one, the Terriers have the lead by a slim margin.

Stats coming soon.

...And BU goes back on top 3-2

A bad giveaway for the Huskies in their own zone led to a goal by Chris Connolly. Rawlings was out of the net and got back in time to make the initial save, but the defense couldn't clear the rebound before Connolly put it in.

Penalty to Ross Gaudet of BU puts Northeastern on the power play until the first intermission.

Justin Daniels Evens The Score, 2-2

Justin Daniels carried the puck in the Terriers zone and got close enough to rip a clean wrist shot past Milan to tie the game up at 2-2. The goal was assisted by linemate Tyler McNeely and with under four minutes to go in the first period, the Huskies have some new life.

BU goal, 2-1

The Terriers now lead 2-1 after scoring a goal with 11:05 left in the first period. Zach Cohen gets credit for the goal, assisted by Nick Bonino.

Originally the goal was called off by a referee after he blew the whistle, but after a review they overturned the call.

Huskies tie it up at 1

Off a faceoff, Jake Newton takes the puck and after stick-handling around what seemed like most of the BU team, put one past Kieran Milan to tie the game. Assist goes to Mike McLaughlin who won the faceoff back to the freshman defenseman.

BU takes the early lead

BU gets a goal to make it 1-0 just under 4 minutes into the first period. Goal goes to Wade Megan, the freshman out of Canton, New York.

Not a great goal, but Rawlings left a rebound out in front of the net and Megan came in late to bury it.

Starting Lineups

For the BU Terriers: Zach Cohen, Nick Bonino, Vinny Saponari, Colby Cohen, and Kevin Shattenkirk. In net, Kieran Millan.

For the Northeastern Huskies: Tyler McNeely, Justin Daniels, Kyle Kraemer, Jim Driscoll, and David Strathman. Chris Rawlings is in net.

Agganis recognized all of the Northeastern seniors before the game, a nice touch.

Kicking off the last weekend of the regular season- what a logjam!
